Start with the flooring and its finish

“Wooden flooring” does not identify a surface precisely. Note its type, finish, condition and the manufacturer’s or installer’s cleaning instructions. For a rented home, look for the product reference in the property documents. A photo can help you ask a question, but cannot establish a finish or water resistance. Distinguish varnished, oiled and waxed wood; the cited Kärcher guidance warns that wood and laminate edges are moisture-sensitive.

Make the same checks for laminate, vinyl and grouted floors. A “water-resistant” marketing claim does not replace the installed flooring’s care instructions. Confirm the permitted moisture level, detergent and cleaning method. Until that is clear, keep using a method already approved for the floor.

Read the flooring instructions alongside the appliance manual

A shop page summarises uses; the manual sets out restrictions, steps and approved products. Read the manual for the exact model and selling market. Some sources in this dossier are French-market documents. Check surfaces, cleaning solution and operating conditions; an attachment pictured with another variant may not be included.

For example, FLOOR ONE STRETCH S6 has a French manual linked from its official product page. This is more useful for planning maintenance than a general comparison of the whole range. Homavise links available documents and leaves compatibility unconfirmed where the evidence for your particular floor is missing.

Separate floor cleaning from roller cleaning

Dock temperatures can refer to washing or drying the roller rather than the water reaching the floor. A dock figure does not establish steam cleaning, household disinfection or suitability for your flooring.

For each claim, identify the part being measured: tank water, roller on the dock, drying air or steam actually applied to the floor. If the manufacturer does not explain the measurement, do not let the number decide your purchase.

Plan a realistic route through your home

Mark compatible rooms, rugs, thresholds and low furniture on a simple plan. A cleaner can suit the kitchen without replacing all your cleaning equipment. Count changes of surface as well as floor area: several rugs create a different routine from one large open room.

Measure clearance under the furniture you need to reach. A low cleaning head is insufficient if the tank or body catches further in. Check the full depth, crossbars and lowest point, leaving a margin for unevenness and movement.

Your pre-purchase checklist

Use one row per area and one column per check. If an essential answer is missing, ask the relevant manufacturer for written clarification before counting that room as a reason to buy. A general wet-cleaning claim cannot settle a specific compatibility question.

Choose an appliance whose permitted uses match everyday needs. Extra attachments cannot resolve incompatible flooring. Keeping your existing vacuum for some surfaces and using a vacuum mop only where it has a clear purpose can be a practical combination.

  • Identify the flooring reference and finish.
  • Confirm that the flooring manufacturer permits the wet-cleaning method and detergent.
  • Read the exact appliance manual.
  • Identify rugs and excluded areas.
  • Measure clearance for the whole body, not just the head.
  • Allow storage space, a socket and convenient access to water.

Practical answers

Frequently asked questions

Is a vacuum mop suitable for every wooden floor?

No. Check both the flooring manufacturer’s instructions and the exact cleaner’s manual. “Wooden floor” alone is not enough.

Can I use the same mode on rugs?

Do not assume so. Check the permitted use and attachments for your exact variant. The models documented here are assessed mainly for hard floors.

Does hot roller drying mean steam cleaning?

No. Roller treatment on the dock and the method applied to the floor are separate functions.

What if I cannot identify my flooring?

Look for the invoice, property documents or installer’s information. Until confirmed, keep using a care method already authorized.

Is head height enough to check access under a sofa?

No. Check clearance for the whole body throughout the depth, with room for movement.
